Grants and Scholarships for Undergraduate

The following information is based on the 2012-2013 approved institutional financial aid program for traditional undergraduates. Official eligibility will be determined at the point of admission acceptance and financial aid packaging. Financial aid awards and eligibility are reviewed annually and may change.

FRESHMAN ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS are awarded to incoming freshmen showing high academic achievement from an accredited high school. Priority consideration for academic scholarships is given to applicants admitted prior to March 2. Students should submit an application for admission by the non-binding early action deadline of January 15 in order to receive a decision by March 2. Academic scholarships range from $5-16,000 annually and may be renewed for up to three years based on maintaining the renewal GPA. Academic scholarships available after the March 2 acceptance date will be at decreased amounts.

Freshman academic scholarships are awarded based on a comprehensive, holistic model using Cal Grant GPA (grades 10-11, un-weighted core GPA), weighted cumulative class rank, and standardized test score (SAT Critical Reading and Math, or ACT Composite).

TRANSFER ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS are awarded to incoming transfers showing high academic achievement from an accredited college or university. Transfer academic scholarships are awarded based on a calculated transfer core GPA excluding remedial coursework and no more than eight units of physical activity coursework. To be eligible for consideration, transfer students must have successfully completed 12 academic units of graded, transferable coursework. Academic scholarships range from $3-10,000 annually and may be renewed for up to two years based on maintaining the renewal GPA.

NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST SCHOLARSHIPS are available to full-time undergraduate students selected as a National Merit Finalist and entering VU as a first-time freshman. Awards are for up to full tuition and may be renewed for up to three years based on maintaining the 3.0 renewal GPA.

VU NEED GRANTS are based on financial need as determined by the FAFSA. Funding cannot be guaranteed if the FAFSA is submitted after the March 2 priority deadline.

TALENT SCHOLARSHIPS are available to students with exceptional ability or talent who participate in athletics, music, theatre, or forensics. Awards vary and are determined by the respective department.

MINISTRY GRANTS of $1,000 annually are available to those involved in full-time Christian service as ordained or licensed ministers and missionaries, or their dependents.

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD EMERGING LEADER SCHOLARSHIPS of $1,500 are available to full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate superior involvement and leadership in their church, community, and/or high school. Preference is given to students who receive superior rating at the AG National Fine Arts Festival or National Bible Quiz Finals. A copy of the award certificate should be submitted to Undergraduate Admissions. To be eligible, students must apply by an early action admission application deadline and have a Cal Grant GPA of 3.0. The scholarship may be renewed for up to three years based on maintaining the 3.0 renewal GPA.

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD CHURCH GRANTS are available to members or their dependents of a participating church. Awards vary and are determined by the participating church in coordination with VU. Information regarding participating churches may be obtained from the University Advancement Office.
